Founded in 1994 by Carl Navarre, Publisher and CEO of Atlantic Monthly Press, MyPublisher began selling the first photo book kits to retailers like Barnes and Noble, Fox Photo, and Moto Photo, in addition to cataloguers including Exposures, Orvis and Neiman Marcus. In 1997, MyPublisher expanded its distribution to include 1-Hour Photo labs at Walmart, Kmart, Walgreens and CVS. In 1999, as the use of digital photography and the internet became widespread, MyPublisher phased out the offline business and launched the first fully digital online application on MyPublisher.com.
Retail partners ranging from AOL to Apple, Best Buy and Costco quickly recognized the power and popularity of our unique Photo Book product. In 2000, MyPublisher partnered with AOL You’ve Got Pictures, followed in 2001 with an exclusive 5-Year partnership with Apple Computer to supply all printed book product for Apple’s phenomenally successful iPhoto Software Application. The partnership between MyPublisher and Apple to create the iPhoto Book product was initiated and overseen by Steve Jobs, personally.
Apple’s launch of iPhoto in 2002 resulted in broad consumer awareness and demand for the digital Photo Book (and MyPublisher as the leading supplier). In 2003, MyPublisher launched its first proprietary book design application for Windows. Partnerships soon followed with Adobe, Jasc, Best Buy and Costco.
Since 2003, MyPublisher’s sales have grown by over 2000%. MyPublisher has launched frequent upgrades to its book making application, to continually expand its capabilities. It has launched multiple unique new products: mini-books, exclusive Lay-Flat Paper and Super Gloss Printing—as well as the most advanced suite of creative tools for page layout of any custom photo publisher.
In 2013, MyPublisher joined forces with Shutterfly Inc., to offer an even greater array of photo gift products. The brand still stands as one of the leading sources of photo books, touting an impressive updated version of their book making software with a variety of new features.
MyPublisher’s history of innovation extends into its technology, consistently evolving and refining application functionality, to make the products faster, better and more accessible to all.
